The Montour Music Department is dedicated to providing an inclusive, high-quality music education that fosters creativity, collaboration, and lifelong appreciation for the arts. Through diverse musical experiences, we empower students to develop skills, confidence, and a deep connection to music and their community.

K-12 Curriculum Breakdown
Elementary School (K-4)
- General Music (K-4): Students explore fundamental music concepts through singing, movement, rhythm instruments, and creative activities. They develop listening skills, basic notation, and an appreciation for various musical styles.
- 4th Grade Band: Introduction to instrumental music, including instrument selection, basic technique, music reading, and ensemble playing.
Middle School (5-8)
- Band (5-8): Progressive development of instrumental skills, ensemble techniques, and musical literacy through performances and rehearsals.
- Choir (5-8): Vocal development, sight-singing, and ensemble singing in a variety of styles, with opportunities for performance.
- 7th Grade Piano & Guitar: Introduction to foundational techniques, note reading, and basic performance skills.
- 8th Grade Piano & Guitar: Expanded skills in chord progressions, sight-reading, improvisation, and solo/group performance.
- Percussion Ensemble: Students will gain experience in Steel Pans and explore World Music.
High School (9-12)
- Band: Advanced ensemble performance, technique development, and diverse repertoire, including marching and concert band.
- Choir: Vocal performance in various styles, sight-singing, and choral ensemble techniques.
- Jazz Ensemble: Exploration of jazz styles, improvisation, and advanced instrumental techniques.
- Music Theory: Study of notation, harmony, ear training, and composition fundamentals.
- Guitar: Continued development of guitar techniques, including classical and contemporary styles.
- Music Technology: Introduction to digital music production, recording, and composition using modern software and technology.
