  MESSAGE FROM THE NURSE

In hopes of keeping your child healthy, I have outlined what you can expect from the health room.  Please keep the nurse informed about all changes in your child's health and immunizations. If your child has a communicable disease such as strep throat, chicken pox, lice, please inform me.  If the information impacts your child in the classroom, their teachers will be notified.

The nurse CAN:

  • Give acetaminophen (Tylenol) for child's general aches and/or fever.
  • Give Tums.
  • Give throat lozenges and/or cough drops.
  • Provide first aid.
  • Send your child home with the emergency contacts that you have designated.

The nurse CANNOT:

  • Give Over-the-Counter medications (Motrin, Sudafed, Aspirin, etc.) without a doctor's order.
  • Give prescription medications without a doctor's order.  Students are not permitted to carry ANY medications or keep them in their desk, book bag, or lunch box.
  • Allow your child to walk home if they are ill.

During the school year, children in grades K-3, 7 and 11 will receive a hearing test.  All students will receive a vision test, height, weight and BMI.

 Physical exams (grades K, 6, 11 mandated) and Dental exams (grades K, 3, 7

mandated) may be done by your own doctor or a free exam by the school's doctor/dentist. You will be notified this fall of the exam date.  Please supply written notice if religious beliefs prevent your child from participating in this requirement.

If your child does not have health insurance, free or low cost coverage is available through Pennsylvania's Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).   Please click on this link for more information.

Please complete both sides of the Medical Authorization card and return it as soon as possible.

Thank you, and have a healthy year!
